A training on Social Protection was conducted from 11th -13th September 2013 in Mabanga Agricultural Training Centre, Bungoma, in Busia County.
It was aimed at creating awareness on Social Protection and building the capacity of Social Protection actors in the area.
The training attracted thirty (30 )participants drawn from eighteen (18) different Social Protection actors among them, Busia County Government office, County Social Develoment Officers, Children's Department Officers and other Social Protection actors from the County.
Specific topics covered in the training included Advocacy in SP, Defining Social Protection Policy process and content, Cash Transfer implementation experience, Financial Inclusion, Governance in Social Protection, Integrating Social Protection strategies and approaches for enhanced delivery, Monitoring and Evaluation for Social Protection policies and programmes and Management Information Systems (MIS) for Social Protection policies and programmes.
One of the key emerging issues during discussions was the need to develop knowledge and experience sharing forums on Social Protection implementation across the County and the country in general as well as the importance of strengthening the SP monitoring and evaluation system to generate evidence for Social Protection.
The training was organized and conducted by the Social Protection Secretariat, supported by the Programme for Agriculture and Livelihoods in Western Communities in Kenya (PALWECO).
It was officially opened by the Ececutive Officer for Community Development, Sports, Culture & Social Services Busia County Government, Hon. Grace Matinde.
